Built because grant audits are still hard
Nonprofit finance teams run on tight margins and face the same grant compliance problems year after year. We built KleerCard to remove the manual layer that causes most of them.
Grant compliance should not require a dedicated staff role
Most nonprofit finance teams manage restricted funds across dozens of grants using spreadsheets, end-of-month bank reconciliations, and manual transaction tagging. It works until the audit. Then it doesn't.
KleerCard is purpose-built for this problem. Issue spend cards with grant policies built in, and every purchase is coded correctly at the moment it happens. Not at month-end. Not when your accountant asks. At the moment of purchase, automatically.
We are not a general-purpose spend management tool that added a compliance checkbox. We started with the compliance problem and built the card program around it.
The problem is predictable. The fix was not.
Grant violations are discovered late
Most restricted-fund mischarges are found during or after the audit, not when the purchase happens. At that point, remediation is expensive and often affects future grant eligibility.
Spreadsheets break at scale
A spreadsheet-based grant coding workflow is fragile. One missed row, one wrong code, one person out sick during close creates discrepancies that take days to trace.
Finance teams carry this alone
Program staff spend grant money. Finance staff verify it matches grant rules after the fact. That review cycle is manual, recurring, and stressful every quarter.
Spend cards were not built for this
Corporate spend cards are designed for expense reimbursement workflows. They were not built for fund accounting, grant restrictions, or the audit trail requirements of a 501(c)(3).
We work on this full time
Small team. Close to customers. Colorado Springs-based.
Spent several years working with community development organizations in Colorado on financial reporting and grant compliance before co-founding KleerCard in 2024. Saw the same restricted-fund coding problems repeated across different organizations and decided spreadsheets were the wrong answer to a card-level problem.
Previously built card program infrastructure at a fintech startup. Focused on the card issuance and transaction authorization layer that makes real-time grant coding technically possible.
Background in nonprofit fund accounting and grants management at regional community organizations. Brings direct experience with the restricted-fund coding problems KleerCard is built to prevent, and leads the compliance controls and policy framework work at the company.
What early-access customers have seen
"The time we were spending on grant coding at month-end dropped by roughly 70 percent in the first 60 days. That's not a small number for a team our size."
Every product decision in our first year came directly from conversations with nonprofit finance directors. We do not build in isolation.
Compliance is not a feature we added. It is the core reason KleerCard exists. Every product decision starts from "does this help or hurt grant compliance?"
We are not optimizing for a funding round. We are building a product that earns its subscription fee by saving more time than it costs. That keeps us honest about what we ship.
We are based here. We hire carefully.
We are in early access, not growth mode. We hire when we find the right person for a specific gap. If you work in nonprofit finance or fintech infrastructure and want to work on this problem, email us directly at [email protected].
